Carcassing - 75mm timbers

Carcassing - 75mm timbers

    Scandinavian and Baltic stocks
Our 75mm (and 50mm) timber is normally Scandinavian or Baltic stock. These imported timbers grow slower than home-grown stocks, generally the imported timbers offer greater stability, can be graded to higher levels and also provide a better machined finish.

    Regularised and graded timber
Our imported structural timbers are kiln dried and then machine graded at the sawmills to BS4978 strength classes C16 and C24. We normally purchase regularised timber stock, the timbers within each pack having consistent dimensions and these timbers have a smoother planed finish than traditional sawn carcassing. Most regularised timber has “eased” edges, the processing means that the nominal sizes are reduced by 2mm off the thickness and 5mm off the width.

Timbers all pressure treated with preservative
Our timber carcassing is pressure treated with Tanalith E, or similar, timber preservative. These timbers are intended for use above the ground DPC but where the timber may be subjected to the risk of occasional wetting. All cut ends should be resealed with the appropriate end-treatment, e.g. Ensele should be used on any Tanalith E timbers.

When we order packs from the docks we normally specify that all timbers are pressure treated. In some instances we have customers who require untreated packs of timber, this does require the customer to take full packs and generally involves a slightly longer lead time.

    Large timber stocks
Large quantities of carcassing are kept in stock, pricing is competitive and enquiries are welcomed for pack quantities. Further back-up stocks are normally kept in the bulk storage area in the bottom yard. Stock turn is very good across most of the 50mm range which allows regular replenishment from the mills.

    Stocks normally kept in Yard:

    75mm x 100mm: 3.6m & 4.8 metres

    75mm x 125mm: 3.6m & 4.8 metres

    75mm x 150mm: 3.6m, 4.8m & 6.0 metres

    75mm x 175mm: 3.6m, 4.8m & 6.0 metres

    75mm x 200mm: 3.6m, 4.8m & 6.0 metres

    75mm x 225mm: 3.6m, 4.8m & 6.0 metres
