Carcassing - large sections
Carcassing - large sections
Southern Timber can get large sections of douglas fir, larch and green oak machined for bespoke buildings. Section sizes depend on what logs are available at the mill, generally 350mm - 450mm is obtainable with lengths of 8.5 metre to 10 metre the maximum. These can be supplied treated up to 9.0 metres in length
Douglas Fir is an attractive timber and can be cut into large beams, purlins and posts. The images on this page show some 150mm x 150mm Douglas Fir heartwood which was chosen to minimise shakes and checks.
Larch is similar in appearance to Douglas and can be graded to C16 and to C24 for structural applications. Heartwood larch is often selected for exposed timber framing and trusses in open roof construction
Green oak remains popular, for domestic and barn renovations. Green oak is more prone to more movement and is extremely heavy because of its density and moisture content. Air dried oak can also be sourced in large sections, a phone call with dimensions and quantities will allow Southern timber to provide an estimate normally within 24 hours
