Hardwood - balustrading
Hardwood - balustrading
Any decking area may be enhanced with the additioned of a carefully constructed balustrade; in fact there are specific requiremnents for balustrades on decks with more than a 600mm drop. All these balustrade components are machined from balau, and as with all hardwoods there can be considerable colour variation from one piece to the next.
There are three main varieties of hardwood newel posts – reeded, turned and beaded newels. The reeded posts are machined at 86mm x 86mm in 1.5 metre lengths and sometimes they can be sourced in 3.0m and 4.5 metre lengths. The turned newel posts provide a more traditional look, and they are available in 1.3 metre lengths. Beaded newels (pictured left) feature a squared profile with two lines of detail routed out at the top of the post – they present an attractive option but again only avavilable in 1.3 metre length.
