Pitch pine flooring
Pitch pine flooring
Our Pitch Pine boards are imported already kiln dried and machined with a surface that can be fine sanded and treated according to individual preference. Pitch pine was widely used in Victorian buildings and valued for its distinctive grain, rich colours and durability, the colours becoming slightly warmer after time. This flooring is very popular for period properties and for barn conversions where bigger boards have been specified. The boards are supplied tongue and grooved on all four sides (end matched) and are normally stocked in wide boards, we aim for 175mm and 195mm widths depending on availability. Individual boards are nested into threes – each nest contains two full length boards and one ‘made to length’ – two or three end-matched boards which when laid interlock to provide the same length as the full length boards. Wherever possible we source boards in the 3.6m to 4.5m range lengths to provide reasonable working lengths for laying. All widths are 20mm thick.
The boards are kiln-dried at source down to 7%-9% moisture content but to minimise movement it is still recommended that the boards are stored on-site for at least 14 days prior to laying. Although we have no matching pitch pine skirting or architrave many of our customers have chosen primed mdf that they have paint finished in contrasting colours.
Pitch pine flooring could be complemented with the following un-finished pine skirting and mouldings or something from the primed MDF range
