Softwood Trade Deckboards
Softwood Trade Deckboards
Our Trade Deckboards feature a different profile on each side to provide the customer with more creative options. These decking boards are machined from a kiln-dried blank.32mm Trade Deckboards
The ex-32mm x 125mm (finish size 27mm x 120mm) board is a good general-purpose deckboard, ideal for covering patios and low level decks. This profile is normally stocked at 3.6 metre and 4.8 metre lengths; other lengths are also occasionally available. Joist spans for these ex-32mm boards should ideally be kept to 400mm centres, 500mm as a maximum. When these boards are cut to length the exposed end-grain should be treated with two coats of Ensele.
38mm Trade Deckboards
The thicker ex-38mm x 125mm (finish size 32mm x 120mm) deckboards can be used with joist spacings of up to 600mm. Their dimensions make them more suited for use in elevated decks, balconies, walkways and in stairs installations providing they are of course supported by appropriate sized posts and joists. As with all Tanalised timbers any cut boards should be treated with two coats of Ensele.
Timber Treatment
Both of these deckboards are imported as sawn blanks then machined and pressure treated in England. This pressure treatment, Tanalith E, starts as a light green but mellows to a light honey brown after being exposed to a few weeks sunlight; after 18-24 months this may change to a grey colour which is perfectly normal. Colours can be maintained and enhanced where required by using OSMO or Liberon decking finishes stocked at Southern Timber.
