Carcassing - 25mm timbers
Carcassing - 25mm timbers
Home grown product
Most 25mm timber carcassing is home grown because it is normally used for cladding or fencing applications, with no need for regularising or grading of timber. Although it is referred to as 25mm carcassing the finished thickness is almost always 22mm.
Tanalith E treatment
All Southern Timber 25mm carcassing is pressure treated, normally in green Tanalith E, to a minimum Hazard Class 2 which helps minimise any deterioration when used externally. It is strongly recommended that any cross cuts are treated with two coats of Ensele end-grain preservative treatment.
Pales & Fencing
The 75mm x 25mm and 100mm x 25mm lengths tend to be cut and used for fence pales, one reason the 1.8 metre lengths of 100mm carcassing were added to the range in mid-2008.
Yorkshire Boarding, Pales, Gravel Boards & Shuttering
Gravel boards for fencing are usually 150mm x 25mm, they are often used for hit-and-miss fencing – the 1.8 metre length being ideal. Many agricultural buildings use the 150mm x 25mm boards for cladding – they are often referred to as “Yorkshire boarding” when utilised in this manner. They also provide a useful cladding timber under elevated decking structures.
Raised beds, Valley boards & Shuttering
The 200mm x 25mm carcassing timber is often used for valley boards in roof constructions. Both 150mm x 25mm and 200mm x 25mm timbers are also popular for raised vegetable and flower beds. In late 2008 we also added 225mm x 25mm sawn timbers to the range.
