Half round rails
Half round rails
Half round rails are most often used in post and rail fencing but they also have a number of uses for landscaping projects. Used horizontally they can be face fixed to square posts, with weed fabric behind to make an attractive retaining barrier in gardens and landscaping projects. These rails are machined from full 100mm timbers so that at their widest point they offer 45/50mm thickness – some “half-round” rails are remarkably skinny across the middle and are not as strong or effective. Alternatively they can be cut to length and used vertically as a retainer or to face blockwork retainers. They are stocked at 3.6 metres (approx. 12’ length) and represent a decorative timber at a very reasonable price.
Any crosscuts should be treated twice with Ensele end grain treatment to maintain the timbers resistance to moisture. The half-round rails are pressure treated and will weather to a silvery-grey finish, or for low maintenance the colours can be preserved or enhanced with a choice of stain finishes.
