Hardwood Deckboards - Overview
Hardwood deckboards are naturally durable and hard wearing, without treatment the boards weather to an attractive silver/grey colour. Customers wishing to preserve the natural colours are recommended to use Osmo or Liberon Decking Oil that contains UV protection to slow down discolouration.

Stock Products
Bangkirai decking is a very durable hardwood decking, our stocks are normally TFT (Tropical Forest Trust) certified, the boards are of Malaysian origin and are a yellowish brown colour with a moderately fine grain. Bangkirai is the collective commercial name which covers approx. 40 similar species, these boards are normally supplied to us in lengths of 3.0 - 3.9 metre lengths from our usual TFT source, but availability can be very variable. Stocked boards are dual profile and 21mm thick and 145mm wide but we can usually obtain 28mm x 145mm in dual profile, and smooth both sides at both these sizes.

Colours, Characteristics & Maintenance
Bangkirai deckboards are air dried and untreated so there will be colour variations from one decking board to the next, this is particularly noticeable when the decking is first laid. Oiling will help to even out any colour differences which will eventually disappear if the boards are allowed to go grey.

Hardwood deckboards are naturally rot and insect resistant, because they are air dried the fresh boards might show periodic lighter strips along their length where they have been sticked to allow free movement of air around the boards. The boards are dense and hard timber, they do sometimes have some tiny pinhole marks. Newer, fresh cut boards might also leach lightly for the first few weeks so care must be taken near new rendering or limestone gravels.
