Oak - prime boards
Oak - prime boards
Solid oak flooring is imported in bulk packs of kiln-dried sawn boards, averaging 25mm x 150mm, and then machined into Tongue and Groove boards here in England. They are 20mm thick after machining and board length is normally between 2.1 and 3.6 metres. Board widths vary from delivery to delivery but we always try to keep a selection of widths around 162mm to 182mm, but stocks sometimes include board widths of 112mm and 212mm.Oak is very durable and the boards usually display a variety of figuring and colour. Prime grade oak boards will contain minimal small sound knots which might need very small amounts of filler - we stock the popular Liberon filling range. The overall colour of the heartwood is a light but warm brown and there will be some colour variation across the boards reflecting the fact that this is a natural product. Prime oak boards will generally require less finishing than character boards.
Although the boards are kiln dried down to 8% - 10% to minimise movement it is recommended that the boards are stored on-site for at least 14 days prior to laying. Once laid the boards can be finished with Treatex hard-wax oil, in matt or satin finish.
Our Oak flooring stocks are complemented with a range of accessories: SikaBond adhesives, Treatex hard wax oils and ogee, torus & bulnosed skirting
