Planed balustrading
Planed balustrading
Balustrades can be constructed from specially manufactured balustrade components or planed materials which are then cut to suit. This section deals with special baulstrade components.Softwood spindles are available as straight in 0.9m and 1.1 metre lengths, turned spindles are available as 0.9 metres. While turned spindles are attractive they can look fussy if over used, however, they are very effective for breaking up long runs of square spindles – used as one turned for every three square spindles. Please note that any deck edges raised 600mm, or higher, than the ground should use 1.1 metre spindles to comply with building regulations.
One planed balustrade timber that has not had much of a mention anywhere is the 41mm x 12mm planed & pressure treated fillet. This is intended to be used in the rebated handrail & baserail system but can be used for trellis work, door strip, edging strip etc.
