Green Oak - Seasoned
Green Oak - Seasoned
Seasoned Grade
Fresh sawn 'green' oak is avaialable in several different grades, each grade being suited to specific applications. QP2 grade requires:Ungraded sawn timber, air dried for 1-2 years or longer to reduce movement and minimise shrinkage in situ.
While this is an un graded production, quality is generally between QP1 & QP2.
Unsound sapwood is permitted on the edges to the same degree as wanes.
Drying splits and shakes develop during the seasoning period and can be quite substantial especially on larger sections. These shakes and splits are natural to the product and are only unacceptable if causing the beam to be structurally unsound.
The beams are sawn and dried in square sections and are then re-cut to other sections as required. 100mm is the minimum thickness the beams can be sawn to without becoming unsound.
