Fencing Blown over?
11th February 2020
Devon and Cornwall have experienced some pretty horrific winds and rain. The rain softens the ground and the gale force winds loosen the fence posts and fence panels. Needless to say we have been busy supplying fencing panels and February 2020 sees more stock arriving. If you want to replace your storm damaged fence then read on, or alternatively give us a call.
Lap Panels and Featheredge Panels
First of all, if you want a quick-fix fence then lap and featheredge panels are popular. We stock ready-made featheredge panels in four popular heights (3′, 4′, 5′ and 6′) and they are pressure treated for a longer service life. Our traditional lap fence panels are also pressure treated and built to a high standard and we think they qualify as an HD (Heavy Duty) product. We could sell cheaper panels of a lower specification but consider that would be false economy for the customer. These HD Lap panels are stocked in the same sizes as the featheredge panels.
Probably just as important is your fence posts, we prefer customers to use 100mm square rather than 75mm other things being equal they will rot out more slowly. Even better try some incised PermaTimber posts. Because these posts are part-incised they absorb more preservative. Therefore these PermaTimber posts have a 15 year Manufacturers Warranty
Decorative, Designer panels
Designer panels are still selling well. We have recently introduced Woven Fence Panels and Slatted Panels. Contemporary in style this panel is produced by one of our established garden fencing suppliers. It is decorative and combines a sturdy design specification, quality materials and pressure treated timbers. Most important these privacy panels do allow some wind between the slats – pressure on the panels when the winds are really blowing. Our yard stock of designer panels includes privacy and diamond lattice topped products too.
Featheredge and bespoke fences
Fencing products have been an ever-present for Southern Timber. Our stocks of traditional fencing, feather-edge and trellis are maintained through the winter. Featheredge boards are stocked in a choice of 125mm and 150mm lengths include 1.65m and 1.8 metres. fencing rails, featheredge capping and sawn fence posts are all stocked.
Our timber stocks for fencing are vast. We have sawn and planed timber components ready to go. Hit and miss vertical fences are ideal for exposed areas such as the Devon and Cornwall coasts. Chevron styled fences can be fashioned out of low-priced sawn timber and then capped to help protect exposed timber cuts. While talking of cut timbers a mention should be made for Ensele. This product is inexpensive but essential for treating any cuts or holes on fence posts, or any fence timbers which you have cross-cut to size.
