GritStrip and hardwood deckboards
In higher risk areas, for example steps and changes of deck height levels, the decking design should integrate the careful positioning of these boards to minimise risks of slipping. Our anti-slip yellow Balau deck boards are stored to reduce their moisture level. When the mositure content is low enough they can be machined and fitted with the GritStrip treads. Because these anti-slip decking boards are the same dimensions as the profiled boards they can be used as part of a decking installation on walkways, steps, ramps or balconies. They can of course be used for any other application where a low-slip timber board is required.
Decking specification and maintenance
These Balau, also known as Bangkirai, deckboards are air dried and untreated. This means there will be colour variations amongst the decking boards, most noticeable when the decking is first laid. Colour differences will reduce while the boards go grey when exposed to the UV rays of natural sunlight. Using pigmented deck oils can also even out any colour differences. All decking boards should receive regular maintenance, the intervals between cleaning will be dictated by the location of the deck. If the decking receives minimal sunlight and is surrounded by trees and shrubs then it will need more cleaning.
