Osmo Wood Wax Finish overview
Osmo Wood Wax Finish is a microporous natural hardwax-oil wood finish. This product is formulated and packaged to be ideal for using with solid wood worktops. It is extremely tough and hard wearing. Top Oil is also water repellent and dirt resistant. The finish when properly applied is resistant to many liquids including wine, beer, cola, coffee, tea, fruit juices, milk and water. Osmo Wood Wax Finish can be used where?
This product is intended for interior use only. We sell the product primarily for use with more exotic solid timber worktops. It is suitable however for interior timber panelling, furniture and wooden toys. This Osmo product has water-repellent qualities and can therefore be used in rooms with higher humidity. It can be used in kitchens, utility rooms and bathrooms.
Multi-purpose cleaners such as washing up liquids and detergents are highly detrimental to the finished surface. They are not recommended to be used as discolouration or staining may be possible. Other household cleaning products such as vanish, bleach, baking soda etc. are likely to cause severe discolouration or staining.
Osmo Recommended Timbers
Osmo Wood Wax Finish clear extra thin is a complementary product to Osmo TopOil. The Osmo TopOil is formulated for use with most “traditional” timbers including Oak, Beech, Pine and Iroko. However many “newer” timbers have high contents of resin or natural oils. These timbers include: Acacia, Bamboo, Cedar, Cork, Ebony, Green Oak, Ipe, Idigbo, Iroko, Mahogany, Maple, Merbau, Olive, Rosewood, Sapele, South American Walnut, Sycamore, Teak, Walnut and Wenge. For these timber species Osmo formulated Wood Wax Finish Extra Thin.
Green oak isn’t normally an option because of the high moisture content. The maximum moisture content for any timber with Osmo Wood Wax finish is 20%. Idigbo has yellow colouration which leaches when the timber becomes wet. For other timber species a trial application is recommended.
