Pitch Pine flooring

Firstly our Pitch Pine boards are imported already kiln dried and machined. They have a surface that can be fine sanded and treated according to individual preference. Pitch pine was widely used in Victorian buildings and valued for its distinctive grain, rich colours and durability. After laying the colours will become even warmer. This flooring is very popular for period properties and for barn conversions where large width boards have been specified.

Pitch Pine board length and width

The boards are supplied tongue and grooved on all four sides (end matched) and are normally stocked in wide boards, stocks are normally 177mm board width. It appears that 225mm boards will be few and far between in future, we will check if requested. The individual boards are nested into packs of three. Each nest contains one full length board and two ‘made to length’ end-matched boards which when laid interlock to provide the same length as the full length boards. Wherever possible we source boards in the 3.05m to 3.96m range lengths to provide reasonable working lengths for laying. At present (October 2019) we have 3.05 metre boards in stock. All widths are 20mm thick.

Machining and finishing

The boards are kiln-dried at source down to 7%-9% moisture content. However, to minimise movement it is still recommended that the boards are stored on-site for at least 14 days prior to laying. Although we have no matching pitch pine skirting or architrave many of our customers have chosen primed mdf that they have paint finished in contrasting colours.

Pitch pine flooring could be complemented with unfinished pine skirting and mouldings or something from the primed MDF range

Because of the relatively high value of pitch pine we do send reasonable quantities through Palletline haulage.  Typical costs are £45 plus VAT per linear metre – i.e. if the boards are 3.6 metres long you might pay 4 x £45 = £190 plus VAT for haulage. Some areas are charged at over £80 per metre so your Post Code is vital in producing estimates.  The site must have mechanical offload or a minimum of 2 able bodied persons to offload the delivery.  Finally the hauliers would need access for a lorry of up to 36 tonnes in weight
