Product Details
A phenolic resin impregnated film is pressed on both surfaces of the board under high pressure and temperature, smooth on one surface and a textured pattern is pressed onto the other. This imprinted wire mesh pattern improves slip resistance characteristics.
What is Phenolic Ply and why use it?
All panels are edge sealed, usually with acrylic paint, to minimise moisture penetration. These film faced plywood panels have improved resistance to abrasion, moisture penetration, chemicals, insects and fungi. They have a smooth, hygienic, easy to clean surface. Our stock sheets are normally dark brown.
We have purchased phenolic ply from China which looks very good. However the ply veneers are invariably a softwood/hardwood combi, eucalyptus or poplar, and the construction quality isn’t the same standard as European ply. Therefor we now only buy Russian or Latvian phenolic ply with a birch core and the quality has proved much better.
Applications for phenolic ply
We sell a surprising amount of phenolic ply, our regular customers are mainly using them for van linings, trailers and horse boxes, bases on industrial trolleys and flight cases. Other uses include formwork, interior design, furniture, shop fitting and joinery.
Phenolic ply is widely used out doors but the colours are not totally UV resistant and may fade over time when exposed to strong sunlight. We normally keep 9mm, 12mm and 18mm in stock. Thinner plys tend to flex and the film cracks providing less protection to the ply veneers. If the film face isn’t vital you could consider our Birch ply
How about cheaper Phenolic Ply?
While we could supply cheaper phenolic ply we don’t see the point in selling a product that doesn’t do the job. We have previously bought some phenolic ply which looked very good. Then one of our regular clients got some in their workshop and noticed the poorer quality while machining. Therefore we now stock European manufactured phenolic ply only
