Product Details

Western Red Cedar Shingles make an ideal roofing material. These shingles are lightweight, aesthetically pleasing and practical. After weathering they will adopt a pleasant silvery grey shade. Cedar is naturally insect & rot resistant requiring no further treatment and sourced from sustainable forests in Western Canada.

We now concentrate on stocking No.1 Blue Label Certigrade Western Red Cedar Shingles. The Blue Label grade ensures that all cedar shingles are made from cedar that is 100% heartwood, 100% edge grain and 100% clear. Red Label cedar shingles tend to curl and are not so suitable for roofing applications.

Shingles and Stainless steel fixings

All cedar timber boards should be fixed with stainless steel or bronze alloy fixings because the natural tannins in the board will corrode iron, galvanised and aluminium fixings. A range of stainless steel annular nails is available from 25mm to 75mm, stainless steel panel pins and screws are also stocked. Paslode and Fischer stainless nails are available to order, typically with a 24-48 hour lead time.

Suitable fixings are 30/32mm annular ring nails in stainless steel or copper. Under no circumstances should galvanised, bright steel or aluminium fixings be used. Each shingle should be fixed with two nails. As a rule of thumb 1kg of nails will be required for every 4 bundles of shingles

Bundles of Western red cedar shingles start life as a mass of mixed pink and ‘reddy’ brown taper sawn boards. These shingles will tone down naturally to a silver-grey finish

In addition to cedar shingles we also carry a range of other cedar timber products, cedar ridges, cladding and PSE sections for fascia, barge boards and soffits. We are a distributor for Osmo who produce a range of Osmo UV Protection Oils.

Finally, shingle bundles are approx. 680mm long, 450mm wide and 22mm deep. Ridges are packed in bundles 600mm by 180mm by 300mm high
