For some years now we have only bought our 47mm structural timber from Scandinavian stock. These imported timbers grow slower than home-grown timber, offering greater stability, higher grading levels and providing a better machined finish. Our Devon timber stocks are large, we have a high stock turnaround and frequent timber replenishment
Regularised and graded timber
Our imported structural timbers are kiln dried and then machine graded at the sawmills to BS4978 strength classes C16 and C24. We purchase packs of regularised timber, the timbers within each pack having consistent dimensions and a smoother planed finish than traditional sawn carcassing.
Our timber carcassing is pressure treated with Tanalith E, or similar, timber preservative. These timbers are intended for use above the ground DPC but where the timber may be subjected to the risk of occasional wetting. All cut ends should be resealed with the appropriate end-treatment, e.g. Ensele should be used on any Tanalith E timbers. Full packs of untreated timber can be ordered from the docks if required.
Large timber stocks
Large quantities of 47mm carcassing are kept in stock, pricing is competitive and enquiries are welcomed for pack quantities. Stock turn is good, we usually keep back-up stocks elsewhere in the Yard and replenishment from the docks normally takes 3-5 days. Our Devon timber stocks are higher than most merchants in the South West of England
