Round Posts and Rails

Round Post and rail fences are still popular, especially on larger enclosures. Using a tractor and rammer should improve installation speed significantly. The simplest post and rail would use 2 rails and no wire.

Round Post Sizes

We keep good stocks of round post and rail fence posts, with post diameters of 73mm, 88mm, and 106mm. All posts are pressure treated and normally available at a height of 1.65m, 1.8m or 2.4 metre. Typically, 1/3 of the post is dug into the ground.

Most of our green-treated posts are UC4i graded with incisions allowing greater preservative penetration. Customers must register for the Manufacturers's 15-year service life warranty on these UC4i posts.

Sometimes larger incised posts are difficult to find. Another option would be 160mm Poss protected with a bitumen based Post Saver which provides extra longevity for standard treated posts.

Rails for fencing posts

Rails are normally 100mm half-rounds, 38mm x 88mm or 47mm x 100mm. Half-rounds are popular and are supplied at 3.6m or 3.66m. This means that vertical posts must be set at 1.8-metre intervals.

Alternatively, 38mm x 88mm “square” rails can be used for sheep or horses. If required the

fences can be reinforced with an extra rail or galvanised stock-fencing. In terms of wire fencing, we keep stock-fencing in mild steel and high-tensile options. Barbed wire and plain wire are also stocked.
