Timber Posts

Focus here is on sawn posts for fencing and field gates. Planed posts and chamfered newel posts are discussed elsewhere.

75mm and 100mm sawn posts

All timber fence posts for external use should be pressure-treated with preservatives to protect against fungal and insect attacks.  If a higher level of protection is required then 100mm incised posts are available.  These incised posts receive deeper penetration of preservatives, plus the backing of the Manufacturer’s 15-year Warranty. 

Posts for field and driveway gates

Both timber driveway gates and field gates need a 2.4 metre post for hanging. Sawn posts in stock include 150mm, 175mm or 200mm square. Generally the bigger the gate the bigger the hanging post should be. Smaller 3ft. and 4ft. gates are usually sold with a 125mm square post. More details on gate post sizes can be found here

Large sections, long posts

Cross sections for posts longer than 2.4 metres include 150mm square (3.6m and 4.8m) and 200mm square (3.6m and 4.8m). These are standard posts, if you require longer life from this size of timber then please try the Tack ’n’ Wrap Postsaver option.

Planed, smooth posts for decks and designer panels.

In addition to sawn timber posts, we also stock ex.100mm square, smooth planed “newel” posts at 1.25m, 1.8m and 2.4 metre lengths.  Longer lengths, usually 2.4m/3.6m (ex. 70mm) and 3.6m/4.8m (ex. 100mm) smooth planed are available from stock. These timber fence posts are popular for designer fence panels and elevated decks.
