Fence Posts
Square Pressure Treated Posts
Most of the demand for our posts is for fencing, fence panels, deck supports and framing. For most applications we would suggest a minimum of 100mm square, however we also carry 75mm posts.
All posts for external use should be pressure-treated with preservative. This treatment provides protection against fungal and insect attack. Incised posts are increasingly popular, extra preservative penetrates the posts through the incisions and the Manufacturer’s provide a 15-Yr Warranty subject to T&Cs.
Planed, smooth posts for decks and designer panels.
Posts normally have a rough, sawn finish but there are exceptions. At Southern Timber we stock ex.100mm square, smooth planed “newel” posts at 1.25m, 1.8m and 2.4 metre lengths. Longer lengths, usually 2.4m/3.6m (ex. 70mm) and 3.6m/4.8m (ex. 100mm) smooth planed are available from stock. These posts are sometimes used for designer fence panels or for elevated decks.
Posts for field and driveway gates
Most driveway and field gates can be supported by 2.4 metre gates with a 150mm: 175mm or 200mm square cross-section post. Generally, the bigger the gate then the bigger the hanging post should be. Smaller 3ft. and 4ft. gates can usually be supported by a 125mm square post.
Large section, long posts
Cross sections for posts longer than 2.4 metres would be 150mm square (3.6m and 4.8m); 175mm square (3.6m and 4.8m) and 200mm square (3.6m and 4.8m). These are normally standard posts but occasionally we do manage to obtain the incised UC4 options.
