Range of sleepers available

We stock three main types of sleeper – Garden, European oak and UC4 Incised. Their different sizes and qualities makes 7 different options them suitable for various applications. Products in no particular order

Softwood garden sleepers

When planning your garden design you might use these large timbers for steps, earth retention or for growing vegetables in raised garden beds. They can be cut to different lengths and used as a vertical retainer. Care should be taken with only the factory treated end in ground contact. Please note that softwood sleepers might rot relatively quickly in wet conditions.

Designs using UC4 Sleepers

Because of their better service life and more regular profile the UC4 sleepers make good looking, uniform garden steps.  The incised sleepers can be made more contemporary looking by applying 2 coats of Osmo Black Woodstain., or if you are feeling adventurous then we have greys, reds, blues and earth colours as well.

The key to UC4 is that specialised incising machinery leads to deeper penetration for the preservative. Not only does this lead to a longer product service life but also our UC4 products can be used in ground contact for a guaranteed service life of 15 Years or more.

Oak Retainers near light coloured gravel and slabs

Because fresh cut oak contains a high proportion of tannin it can leach out of the oak timbers after cutting. When assessing your new design please make allowance for this leaching, it might stain graves, stones, rendered walls, slabs and other light-coloured materials.  This effect is usually quite appealing but frustrating if you have bought a quantity of white limestone.
