Western Red Cedar cladding is naturally resistant to fungal and insect attack, there is no need for further preservative treatments. It is very light, machines easily, has a long service life and is particularly suitable for cladding. Cedar timbers fade naturally to a silver-grey colour, but colours can be maintained or enhanced by using wood oils or stains.
Cedar shiplap cladding offers an economic, attractive and environmentally friendly way to complete a building exterior and remains popular with Architects. We prefer imported Western Red Cedar for our cladding products because of its much longer service life. Our planed square edge cedar timber can be used around windows and doors, they can be used as cover strips for corners. Usually our ex.100mm TGV cladding boards are used for doors and soffits
Cedar Shadowgap is an increasingly popular cladding option, it offers a more contemporary option than traditional shiplap profiles. The natural colour variations in Western Red Cedar provides a natural looking product, colours can be maintained using Osmo pigmented UV oils. Western Red Cedar is preferred to imported white cedar, or home grown cedar which contain more sapwood and therefore they are less durable.
We keep two sizes of cedar TGV in stock, ex, 22mm x 100mm and ex 22mm x 150mm. The larger size is popular for cladding upper elevations and gable ends because of longer service life and reduced maintenance requirements when compared to many other timbers. Western Red Cedar is naturally rot and insect resistant, very stable and lightweight making it ideal for ceilings, garage doors, soffits, feature walls, stairways, saunas, pool & hot tub houses etc.
Several section sizes of cedar PSE timber are kept in stock, other sizes are available to order. Ex 22mm x 75mm and ex-25mm x 100mm are popular for corner cover strips on cedar clad buildings. Western Red Cedar in ex-22mm is also kept in ex-150mm & x 200mm widths so the customer can machine to their own needs for applications including window reveals, door trims and fascias. Other machined widths are available to special order.
Our Western Red Cedar parallel chamfered boards are ex 22mm x 150mm and finish at 17mm thick with a cover of approximately 134mm. Board lengths are variable but the majority are usually in the range of 3.05m to 4.5m (10′-15′). Machining allows each board to partially overlap adjoining boards, the profile is also sometimes known as splayed or open-joint cladding. These boards are now a special order item
We now supply cedar featheredge to special order only. The planed cedar featheredge boards are machined for a quality finish and provided with a 15mm rebate to improve the products weather resistance. As with all cedar products only stainless steel, silicon bronze or copper fixings should be used. Sawn featheredge produces an attractive fence where a customer is looking for a product that greys with age but offers a longer service life.
We stock Western Red Cedar Shingles graded as No.1. Blue Label Certigrade, these are the preferred product for roofing and cladding. Each bundle covers approx. 2.1-2.2 sq. metres. Prices of cedar can be quite volatile, but ultimately will depend on the quantity ordered. Stainless steel annular nails are recommended, each 1kg. bag should suffice for 4 bundles of shingles. Pre-made cedar hip & ridge caps are also available in 15′ (4.6 metre) packs.
We have sourced a wide variety of sawn, planed and machined cedar products over the last few years. Popular section sizes include 50mm x 200mm, 100mm x 100mm and even 100mm x 150mm. One very striking product was the bespoke cedar fence shown here for a property on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. Planed cedar slats are secured to cedar posts and then concealed with machined ex-100mm cedar strips.
