Balustrade installations normally use the moulded redwood hand and base rail which are rebated for 41mm spindles to put the finishing touches to your deck. The handrail has a pronounced round top profile to make it more comfortable to the hand, the flatter profiled base rail can be used if preferred. Both decking hand rail and the base rail are machined from the same redwood as our deckboard and spindles, the kiln-dried timber allowing a smooth planed finish.
The hand rail and base rail come in 3.6 metre lengths and are machined to size for use with our ex 100mm planed posts. They can be used with our 82mm finish newels but are slightly too wide for use with our 75mm posts. Base rail and hand rail are both rebated for the 41mm x 12mm fillet which we sell separately in 3.3 metre lengths.
Matching 41mm softwood spindles are available in straight lengths of 900mm and 1100mm. Please note that any deck edges raised 600mm, or higher, above the ground level should use the 1100mm spindles to comply with building regulations.
In summer 2015 we stopped selling turned newel posts and turned spindles although they are still available to special order. While turned spindles are attractive they can look fussy if over used, but they are effective for breaking up long runs of square spindles say used as one turned for every three square spindles.
