47 x 125mm KD 4RC Pressure Treated C24 (FSC Mix) per metre

Our carcassing stock is strength-graded at C24 sometimes referred to as stress-graded). It is supplied by an established importer, with the timber planed-all-round for consistency and easy handling. Timber quality is high and supply from Scandinavia is reliable and consistent. All carcassing stock, except some CLS, is pressure treated and is signified by a light green colouration.

Carcassing stock section sizes

We keep large quantities of 47mm x 125mm carcassing while aiming to rotate stock as quickly as possible.  Incoming carcassing deliveries from Scandinavia are received on a regular basis. Please note that because the imported timber is regularised and planed all-round most of our timber is now 45mm

Most architects specify C24 graded timber because of the longer distance spans available – it doesn’t offer any visual advantages. It does however mean that C24 stock has to be imported because our UK home-grown timber grows too quickly to achieve C24 grade.

Carcassing timber stocks are environmentally certificated, unless marked otherwise. We sell both FSC and PEFC certified timber. Both organisations are dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management. The process includes independent timber audits and third-party certification

Most of our carcassing timbers are stocked at multiples of 600mm intervals, that is 3.0m, 3.6m, 4.2m, 4.8m, 5.4m and 6.0m. It is possible to check current stock availability by viewing the webpage for the timber you require.  Our stock levels are live, each stock transaction is updated as it happens.

The uses of carcassing timbers

Our carcassing timbers are Kiln Dried (KD) which gives them improved dimensional stability.  All our carcassing is normally planed and regularised for a smooth and consistent finish. This makes the timber easier to handle than most sawn carcassing. The finish is very similar to CLS timber. All of our carcassing timbers, with the exception of some CLS, is supplied pressure treated.

Popular uses for 6x2 carcassing include floor joists, ceiling joists and roof rafters.  The pressure treated (aka tanalised) carcassing is also used for decking joists and studwork. If these are exposed to the weather then further preservative treatment should be added to prolong service life.  Finally a tin of Ronseal End Grain protector should be applied to any cross cuts in pressure treated timber.
