Our Character Oak PSE boards have square edges and are machined from character grade American White Oak. We buy a specific production of oak ensuring consistency of product. It has a lower moisture content when compared to many other boards; kiln dried to 8-10 % to which gives a greater stability to the boards. This supply also generates a variety of lengths. These oak boards can be secret fixed with Tongue-Tite stainless screws to a timber battened floor..
Because the oak is a character grade, it does display a variety of figuring which gives colour, with large and small knots and splits. Consequently we recommend allowing for 15% wastage. Osmo Polyx Hardwax Oil is available in clear finishes (matt, satin, satin-matt, natural and gloss) along with a range of Osmo Colour Tints
These are straightedge boards and they are usually available in 94mm, 120mm,142mm, and 192mm finished widths. Narrower PSE Oak boards are 19mm x 44mm, 19mm x 69mm and 12mm x 25mm. Lengths available will fluctuate so if you intend to collect specific lengths then best to call and verify first.
These boards are perfect for high traffic areas in the home, are easy to clean and maintain and can be sanded and refinished. We recommend acclimatising in the room that it is to be fitted for at least 14 days prior to laying. The machined boards are machined so they can be turned over to the "best" side if required. We do not recommend using these boards with underfloor heating systems. If using adhesive it must be totally flexible such as Osmo MS Advance or (Sika -52/-54). If nailing or screwing, the battens in the subfloor then these battens must be totally seasoned and dry. If the batten timbers are wet then the moisture will be absorbed by the oak boards. Fixings must be stainless steel - galvanised nails will discolour the wood.
