Softwood Decking Boards – the Premier Deck option

Our softwood decking boards are imported in plank form from Scandinavia. The Importer uses redwood for these Premier softwood deckboards because redwood is more durable than whitewood.  These are kiln dried blanks and when required in the factory they are machined to profiled redwood decking boards.  The finished size is approximately 33mm x 120mm, but depends on moisture content.

After machining the decking boards are pressure treated with next generation Tanalith preservative. Packs of deckboards are banded together, loaded onto the bogies and treated under stringent conditions of time, pressure and temperature. The overall treatment process has been devised, and is monitored, by Lonza Chemicals. The process has to be rigorous so that these deckboards are eligible for a 15 Year Manufacturer’s Warranty.

The Premier quality deckboard

There are several things that stand out about this deckboard. The profile of the board has been kept the same for over 20 years, we recognise that customers like continuity and when extending their deck they might well prefer the same board profile. This can also be the case if somebody gets carried away with the barbecue or chimera.

Deckboard length is another consideration.  Premier boards are stocked, where possible, at 3.0m, 3.6m, 3.9m, 4.2m, 4.8m, 5.1m and 6.0 metres.  Providing a choice of lengths means that less cuts would probably have to be made.

The Premier boards are machined from kiln-dried joinery grade timber. Wood is a natural product and will contain some knots, but the quality grade of timber means that this should be within certain boundaries. Composite decking is one option for those who don’t like the character of real wood, but there can be issues with the appearance of composite products as well.

Grit Strip Decking Boards – the low-slip option

These Grit Strip deck boards use our Premier decking boards and add two infills of resin and aggregate. These low-slip boards are popular on walkways, ramps, balconies or steps that are exposed to heavy foot fall. They are also useful in areas that receive rainfall but don’t get enough sunlight, or air flow, to dry the boards out. The Premier Grit Strip deckboards are designed for use in domestic or commercial installations.

Softwood decking timber products

The decking framework is usually built from carcassing timber and remains hidden. The carcassing should be supported by timber posts, plas-pro posts, or blocks. This is to ensure that the timber is not in direct contact with the ground. Usually this supporting framework is not visible. However, if necessary we keep a range of similar styled newel posts. These softwood newels are stocked at 1.2m, 1.8m and 2.4 metres.

Both handrails and base rails are machined by the same decking supplier. These rails are rebated and they accept 41mm spindles. We supply square spindles at 900mm and 1100mm long. Also stocked are 3.3 metre lengths of 12m x 41mm fillet to act as spacers between the spindles.

Finally we also stock a range of tanalised planed timber from the same Manufacturer. This means that you can customise the decking design but still get a similar appearance with your finished decking.
