Deck Stair Strings – Easy way of installing steps
Deck stair strings are ideal for elevated decks help to make the best use of uneven and garden slopes. Elevated decks often make better use of uneven ground and provide extra space and flexibility to existing, underutilised space. While the decking provides a focal point for entertaining it does raise the problem of accessing the lower garden levels. Three and five tread strings represent an easy way of installing professional looking steps on a deck.
Choice of tread string sizes
We supply two sizes of decking tread strings, a three tread which is approximately 600mm high and a five tread which is approximately 1000mm high. They are machined from 245mm finished timbers which are approximately 45mm thick. These timber strings are pressure treated with preservative after machining. Similarly the tread section of each string is approx. 220mm in depth, the risers are approx. 185mm.
This product is pressure treated using Next generation TANALITH E wood preservative which provides a 15 year TREATED-RIGHT performance warranty against wood decay and insect attack (terms and conditions apply). The Strings are UC4 treated but must not be in ground contact.
Combine with anti-slip deckboards
Finally, the tops of the treads are machined to support two widths of our 125mm deckboards and can be purchased in any quantity required. We would recommend the use of at least one grit strip boards on each tread, these boards are normally supplied in 4.8 metre lengths. If they are being used with ex-38mm timbers they should be spaced at no more than 600mm centres.
