MDF is an incredibly versatile interior panel, with a high internal bond strength, used extensively throughout the construction and furniture industries.
MDF sheets are an engineered wood product, usually sold in 2440mm x 1220mm sheets. This board material is traditionally used for interior furniture, fittings and trims because it is relatively easy to machine, trim and paint.
Properties of Standard MDF
MDF is manufactured using sawdust or shavings of wood, dried and combined with resin and wax. Compressed with heat and pressure, into rigid shapes which are then sanded and cut to size.
These MDF sheets have a consistent appearance, a smooth look without the knots and splits found in real timber. MDF fluctuates less in thickness when compared to wood or ply.
Moisture Resistant MDF
MR MDF is moisture resistant, not waterproof. It can be used in damp areas but not used outdoors. MDF will absorb water quite easily, which will lead to swollen and dis-coloured patches. Plywood is not immune to water damage but will hold up better tham the equiavet MDF
