A Good Customer of Southern Timber - John Pook from DDE Electrical Engineering came to Aaron Millman from Southern Timber wanting to winterproof a log cabin he had back at home. Aaron went up to have a look at the best options for cladding the cabin. It was then later agreed that some douglas fir waney edge would be most cost effective and look amazing with the area where it was located.

John then placed his order with Southern Timber and within a few weeks it had arrived. Over the course of 5 weekends total John, Aaron and other friends completed the cladding on the cabin. The cabin is much warmer and looks fantastic thanks to the materials and expert help / advice from Southern Timber.

Product details for the Tenmat FF102/50

This Tenmat is an “open state” cavity fire barrier for use horizontally within uninsulated, ventilated and drained cavities. It is suitable for “open-state” ventilated cavities up to 50mm wide. It is Fire Rated for up to 120 minutes for both integrity and insulation when tested to the general principles of BS EN 1363-1 following ASFP TGD 19 guidance .  Because of the importance of this product it has  to be certified, in this case the 3rd PartyCertificaion is provided by IFC Certification.

This product is suppplied in strips of 1 metre long, 75mm wide and 6mm thick. They are lightweight - designed to be easily and quickly installed. After installation there should be no furhtrer maintenance should be required. It is a ventilated design and developed to allow maximum ventilation and drainage of cavities reducing the need for cavity trays or weepholes. Hardie Plank

Hardie Plank is a fibre cement board that is fitted by overlapping successive boards. Each plank is 3.6 metres long and normallly laid horizontally. The first board is fitted onto a Hardiie Starter strip which provides the angle for the cladding layers. Once the first layer is fitted progress is quick, even more so if you invest

Cladding for Housing and Garden Buildings

While the weather isn't great for sitting outdoors it does give time for thinking and planning. James Hardie have added VL Plank cladding to their fibre cement family of products. Starting with a range of 6 natural colours, and a natural looking cedar texture, this tongue and groove cladding is becoming more popular.

James Hardie cladding and weatherboards are made from advanced fibre cement materials, which are non-combustible, compared to wood cladding and uPVC cladding. Because of its relatively high-density fibre cement is naturally resistant to adverse events such as fire, extreme weather conditions, pests, rot and fade.

James hardie have partnered with Tenmat to design and promote the Tenmat FF102/50  which is a Ventilated Cavity FIre Barrier. lated Cavity Fire Barriers, are manufactured from a low smoke zero halogen high expansion intumescent material. They are designed to reinstate fire resisting performance to external wall cavities that are required to be ventilated (open-state) in non-fire conditions. The FF102/50 is manufactured from a rigid intumescent material allowing it to be provided in a strip format, it is also covered with a protective layer of aluminium foil for ease of handling. HardieSeal Edge Coating for small repairs

The JamesHardie HardieSeal Edge Coating paint is matched as closely as possible to its equivalent factory colour.  The colours will never match precisely because the factory applied paint is baked under manufacturing conditions. These paints are acrylic the paints are currently available in 21 colours in Litre sized tins. This product was previously known as Touch-Up Paint.
