Who are Sodra?

Sodra produce quality structural sawn timber, our main purchases are for C24 joists.   One of our larger timber suppliers Sodra are a large forest industry group based primarily in Sweden.

Are they timber producers or exploiting raw materials for the greatetst profit?

They are part of the timber global market and contribute to the growth of the Swedish economy. Sodra invest in their mills to enable continued growth in global markets, a long-term approach. Whilst continuing to develop existing products they also increase their focus on further processing and innovation

What is to stop Sodra from selling out?

Sodra have a long term approach with their forestry products. They manage  seeds that grow into saplings that grow into trees that are nurtured for 60 - 70 years before harvesting.

How do we know the quality is good?

Sodra  maintain control over the entire value chain, from seed to customer, and promote sustainable development in all stages. For each tree harvested they plant at least another three.  Materials are processed in modern, fossil-fuel-free facilities.  

How does growing timber assist sustainability?

Tree stocks are maintained by planting three new trees for every mature tree harvested. These trees produce CO2 up until they are about 55-60 years old.  

How do customers know that everything is in order?

Sodra have developed their management systems  to achieve required international standards.  All of the carcasssing timber we buy from  Sodra is PEFC certified and traceable. 

Will they maintain their supplies of quality timber?

Sodra also focus strategically on innovation. They aim to develop new and sustainable climate-smart products that are based on renewable raw materials from the forest.

These firms seem to come and go, faceless and careless. How do Sodra rate?

Södra is made up of 3,000 + employees who consider conversion of the forest products delivered by over 52,000 member/owners into renewable, climate-smart products to be their main mission.

What happens with the waste products?

Basicaly there is no waste - that is how they create profitability. Operations span products ranging from paper pulp to sawn timber to areas comprising renewable energy, building systems and dissolving pulp. The products are then exported to international markets. Their aim is to find climate-smart solutions in every stage of the value chain – from forest to customer.

What next for Sodra?

Although the forest has been with us since ancient times, it’s always ready for new challenges. Replacing oil and plastics is perhaps its most important task at present, and we work closely with customers and researchers to find new solutions.
