Millboard Decking Installation
Millboard design and manufacture a wide range of decking, cladding and assocated items. Many of these products are composite - think of the practicallity and strength of engineered materials. Then combine these aesthetics with the appearance of natural products to achieve the appearance of Millboard.
A finished Millboard decking
By careful use of materials for the sub-frame oit should be posssible to achieve support for the decking levels as and where required. Differend coloured boards can be introduced to create "mood" areas which can then be opened up into play and activity areas for a little parental supervision.
Types of decking sub-frame
Because of the longevity of millboard we should be looking further than just timber for support. Our three main choices are incised UC4 presuure treated, recycled Plas-pro joists/posts and Millboard aluminium subframes. The UC4 joists and posts should last between 15 and 20 years providing they are installed correctly. Aluminium subrames and plas-pro should last 20-30years providing there is some annual maintenance. The Plas-pro posts are joists are made from 100% recyled plastic.
Plas-Pro and Duo-Plas
Posts can be sourced in plas-pro (100% recycled plastic) or a combination of the two. Timber or stainless steel posts should be secured to the ground and main-frame supports. Plas-pro dimensions can vary by +/- 3mm but are normaly more tha adequate for supporting the deck sub-fram. Millboard produce copious instructions on how to prepare and install a new deck.
Anti-Slip properties of Millboard decking
Millboard "steps" should be made using the solid boards. This is a "beefier" board than the standard deck board and is better suited to the impact normally experienced on boards in this location.
A word of caution
One potential hazard is the possibility of standing water on shaded areas of the deck. Even though Millboard has extremely good anti-slip properties this can be a potential slip area. .
Finally time to enjoy
Posts are up, the frame is bolted and the deckboards are screwed - Durafix screws of course. Now you can stamp you character on your blank canvas.
